Farm animals should have more legal protections. They should have them because they can be abused and traumatized from their owner. In the article, Should Farm Animals Have More Legal Protections, it says, “Pigs are having many more piglets — up to 14, instead of the usual eight — but hundreds of those newborns, too frail or crowded to move, are being crushed each year when their mothers roll over” (Gonchar 5). They are saying that because the farm workers are treating them inhumanely, they are having more babies and this is causing more defects and miscarriages. Farm animals should have more legal protection. Farm animals are different than other animals such as pets because they are being raised to provide food. In the article they say that they are different from pets. Farm animals are different from other animals.
New laws are needed to ensure that farm animals are raised and slaughtered in a more humane way. They should enforce these laws because animals are suffering and under intense pain and stress. In the article, one veterinarian says, “It’s horrible,” (Gonchar 8). She says that because she was throwing the remains of cattle that were savaged by coyotes. Animals shouldn’t have to be hunted down and ripped apart by other animals. The article also says that, “It is widely accepted that experimentation on animals, and its benefits for people, will entail some distress and death” (Gonchar 13). Society must change that open feeling that killing and slaughtering farm animals the way they are doing it now is right. New laws are needed to ensure that farm animals are raised properly for the animals’ physical and mental well being.
I am very concerned about where my food comes from. I am concerned because I don’t want to eat food that is unhealthy due to living conditions of the animal. The article states that, “Cows, which normally bear one calf at a time, have been retooled to have twins and triplets, which often emerge weakened or deformed, dying in such numbers that even meat producers have been repulsed” (Gonchar 5). I am concerned where my food comes from. I do feel a responsibility to try to eat animals that are raised humanely.
“The potential benefits are huge: animals that produce more offspring, yield more meat and cost less to raise” (Gonchar 3). Even though it costs less, yields more meat , and it produces more offspring, it hurts the farm animals mentally and physically. Some even die. If some die, that is less money made and less food to eat. It has its benefits however, it overall isn’t worth it.
Should Animals be Kept in Zoos?
Animals should not be kept in zoos! Zoo life in prevents the animals ability to think for itself. In zoos humans are feeding them at the same time every day. Humans use zoos for entertainment and money.
Animals need to think for themselves. Animals that do not think for themselves are useless animals that dont know how to hunt. Animals lose their instinct by sitting around with human things and eating foods that are specially made for the certain type of animal. Animals need their instinct to help them hunt and to be careful of their surroundings.
Animals are supposed to hunt for their food not beg like domesticated animals. People need to let the animals hunt their own food. People would put bunnies and watch them be eaten and it would be done for entertainment. Animals need to learn independence and hunt for themselves not beg like animals. If animals were in the wild, they would hunt for themselves and not be under stress.
